Theatre

Barbers Hill High School Theatre (SALT DOME THEATRE) is open to all 9th-12th graders who have an interest in the inner workings of creating stage productions - whether it be on or off stage. Throughout the year, Salt Dome Theatre hosts large scale productions for our BHISD families and surrounding communities: Fall shows, Musicals (with our amazing Choir program), Short Programs, UIL One Act Play, UIL Prose & Poetry, and Senior Showcases to name a few. Salt Dome Theatre has enjoyed many successes surrounding UIL including multiple State wins, and 30 consecutive 1st placements at District. More than anything, SDT exists to provide students with creative outlets that help them become flourishing artists and fully functioning members of society.

A student's love for Theatre Arts can be captured as early as 7th grade, and these programs are definitely more than fun and games! Students will leave the program more confident and able to speak and present in public without fear. Students learn problem solving skills and independence. They work as a team while developing self-control, empathy and compassion. Theatre Arts students actually create art through stage design, set and lighting design, costuming, makeup and performance. Theatre Arts is a place where everyone is accepted and differences are celebrated.

Theatre Arts is a *performance based* class. All students are expected to actively participate in class on a daily basis. Students will be expected to participate in a variety of activities in class including (but not limited to) games, discussions, performances, assessment (of peers and self), written responses, audience etiquette, and group activities. Being a member of a Theatre Arts class means being expected to participate. We work hard and we play hard.

Our award winning Middle School Theatre programs also compete in UIL One Act Play competition and mount full scale mainstage productions, plays and musicals.  This early experience helps them grow as a thespian once they enter high school.
